In changing with the times, The Gisborne Flea Market has been given a fresh new moniker and is now known as The Early Bird Market.
This Gisborne institution has been appropriately renamed as it happens every Saturday between 6.30am and 8.30am.
For visitors to the region, it will pay to get out of bed early to join the locals as they bag a bargain of - fresh produce, preserves, plants ... you name it !

Gisborne Grande Famil
Gisborne i-SITE hosted i-SITE staff from neighboring regions and treated them to "Grande Famil" over 2 days at the start of May 2012.
Judging by the dark skies and warm attire, temperatures were a little less than what we would expect at this time of year, however the various unique Gisborne attractions more than made up for our unseasonal inclement April/May weather.

Classic East Coast Road Trip
There's nothing like a classic Kiwi road trip!
The roads leading into Gisborne generally have a very low traffic count, have fantastic scenery and are FUN to drive.
The stretch of road between Napier and Gisborne in particular have been hammered with some extreme weather recently, however the work still in progress to repair the damage does little to impede the journey.
Today, we took the following video and the drive on a typically brilliant East Coast day was easygoing and spectacular.
Here's the journey at a little over 2,000 kph!

TEAL Memorabilia
Not many people know that we are collectors of memorabilia from Tasman Empire Airways (TEAL). We love the rich social history of travel in New Zealand and the major part that TEAL played in making international travel so glamorous and sexy.
Last night, Stewart briefly appeared on History Under The Hammer an excellent series produced by Greenstone TV about treasures from New Zealand's past.

One Direction
If you are within regular ear-shot of a teenage girl (or a wanna-be teenage girl), you are probably familiar with the new boy-band sensation, One Direction.
Today we had three lovely young girls turn up at our reception at Teal Motor Lodge that were taking part in a competition to try and win some scarce One Direction concert tickets. They were taking photos of a banner they had skillfully made at various "iconic" Gisborne locations.
We were pleased to help!
